Floodplains by Design recognized Yakima County’s innovative work restoring floodplains, designating it a “Floodplains Luminary.”

Sen. Jim Honeyford, R-Sunnyside, praised Yakima County as a role model for floodplain restoration. “It’s the most innovative floodplain and water management work in the region,” Honeyford said. “Not only is it lowering long-term flooding risk and reducing infrastructure costs, the rivers are producing more salmon and providing cleaner water and recreation and quality of life benefits.”
