The Department of Ecology has released the Floodplains by Design ranked project list for 2017. The Floodplains by Design team is heartened by the range of great multiple-benefit floodplain projects that are being pursued across the state. It represents a tremendous amount of work by local project sponsors and their many partners. The proposed projects are indicative of the shift in river and coastal management that is happening across the state as floodplain managers are increasingly working at meaningful scales to integrate local flood risk reduction efforts with the work of Tribes and others to recover salmon runs. Many of the proposed projects also integrate positive agricultural benefits.
